Senate Leader Atkins Opposes Confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh

SACRAMENTO – California Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) issued the following statement on the pending confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court:

“As President pro Tem of the California State Senate, I strongly oppose the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. Given the numerous serious accusations against Judge Kavanaugh and the extremely credible testimony by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, the American people deserve nothing less than a full FBI background check investigation before the Senate moves forward. Furthermore, I am concerned about Judge Kavanaugh’s temperament in his refusal to answer basic questions posed by the Senate Judiciary Committee members and his blatant attacks on certain members, women in particular.

“Clearly, Judge Kavanaugh will not be impartial if appointed to the highest court in the land. For the sake of our Republic, we need a sober-minded Jurist worthy of the public trust.”
