PRESS RELEASE: Leader Atkins Appoints Vanessa Delgado to South Coast Air Board

April 25, 2019

SACRAMENTO – California Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) has appointed former Senator, Montebello Mayor and City Councilmember, Vanessa Delgado, to fill the vacancy on the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s (SCAQMD) Governing Board.

“Improving the air quality for millions of Californians in the South Coast Air Basin is a serious responsibility and a public health imperative for our state,” Senate Leader Atkins said. “As an experienced local elected official and business leader, I’m confident that Vanessa Delgado is up to the task and will serve with distinction.”

The SCAQMD is the air pollution control agency for all of Orange County and the urban portions of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The area is home to more than 16.8 million Californians and has historically dealt with some of the worst air quality in the nation.

The SCAQMD Governing Board is comprised of thirteen representatives consisting of three appointees (one each by the Governor, Speaker of the Assembly, and Senate Rules Committee) and ten elected officials from the Counties and Cities of the South Coast Air Basin.

The appointment is necessitated by the resignation of Mr. Clark Parker effective April 30, 2019.
