Senate Leader Atkins and Speaker Rendon Call on the National Union of Healthcare Workers and Kaiser Permanente to Negotiate in Good Faith to Reach Agreement

June 7, 2019

"As leaders of the Assembly and the Senate, we are deeply concerned about the statewide strike called by the National Union of Healthcare Workers in its contract negotiations with Kaiser Permanente.

"This will be extraordinarily disruptive. We cannot underestimate the impact of 3,500 mental health caregivers not showing up to provide care to millions of Kaiser patients who depend on it.

"It is critically important that Kaiser’s members and their families continue to have ready access to what can be urgently needed mental health services.

"We call upon both parties – NUHW and Kaiser – to immediately sit down and continue to negotiate in good faith, regardless of how long that might take, until an agreement is reached."
