STATEMENT: Senate Leader Atkins Reacts to Court Decision on Title X
SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) issued the following statement on today’s decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals of the Ninth Circuit clearing the way for the Title X Gag Rule to go into effect:
“The Title X Gag Rule could harm the more than one million patients in California who receive essential health care services like birth control, STD testing, and cancer screenings through Title X. I am proud that my colleagues and I committed to support these programs by doubling funding in the state budget for reproductive health care services. I will continue to stand with Title X providers to ensure they are able to continue their work, and to protect access for patients. The fight isn’t over, Planned Parenthood is seeking emergency relief to try to get it overturned and I strongly support them in their effort.”
