Senate Leader Atkins Reacts to Planned Parenthood’s Announcement on Title X

August 20, 2019

SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) issued the following statement about Planned Parenthood’s announcement that they would no longer accept federal Title X funding:

“Planned Parenthood made an extremely important, and exceptionally hard, decision today when it decided to withdraw from Title X and forego millions in accompanying federal funding. In doing so, Planned Parenthood is choosing to stand beside their patients and the right to access information about physicians who could perform abortions – that was the right decision. I stand with Planned Parenthood, and am proud that our Legislature and Governor recognized the potential need and doubled funding for reproductive health services in our most recent budget. Planned Parenthood serves more than a million women and families in our state, and provides health care to women when they are in some of the most vulnerable of situations. We support them in their work caring for and providing options to California’s families.”
