Senate Leader Atkins Reacts to Senator Pan's physical attack

August 21, 2019

SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) issued the following statement about a physical attack on Senator Richard Pan in the Capitol:

“There is absolutely no reason for resorting to violence. We may not all agree on every piece of legislation, but that is no reason to resort to aggressive and harmful behavior. There is ample room to discuss differences of opinion within the Legislative process, which is transparent and open to the public, and it is shameful that someone would betray the trust we have placed in that process and physically attack Dr. Pan. This is a place where laws are meant to be made, not broken. My colleagues and I will do all we can to aid those investigating this matter and protect the elected leaders, staff, and visitors who work at and tour our Capitol each day.”
