SACRAMENTO – California Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) issued the following statement regarding the announced retirement of California State University Chancellor Timothy P. White:

“Chancellor White has been a pivotal force in the California State University system, and his legacy of improvements for our public university system will carry well into the future. During his time in the CSU, Chancellor White helped increase access for students, worked with state leaders to bolster funding for the CSU, and demonstrated a commitment to making the university system more diverse and reflective of its student population and our state, with more women and people of color holding university positions, from faculty ranks to campus presidents.

I enjoyed working alongside Chancellor White during my time as a CSU Trustee while I was Assembly Speaker, and I have always appreciated the thoughtfulness and integrity he brings to the position. His service to the CSU and partnership with the Legislature will be missed, and I wish him all the best in his retirement.”
