STATEMENT: Leader Atkins commends Governor Newsom and impacted cities and agencies in San Diego County for joining together on cross-border pollution

December 4, 2019

SACRAMENTO – California Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) issued the following statement commending Governor Gavin Newsom and impacted cities and agencies throughout San Diego County for historic partnership around cross-border pollution:

“We need to enact measures to correct the pollution of the Tijuana River, which directly impacts the health of our residents and communities. Upgrades to the bi-national water-capture system at the border provide us with an opportunity to work together with the federal Environmental Protection Agency and Mexico to resolve long-standing health and environmental impacts. Our collaboration is key to finding, and funding, the kinds of long-term fixes needed to stop this pollution from causing further harm.”
