March 12, 2020

SACRAMENTO – California Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) issued the following statement on Governor Gavin Newsom’s actions regarding COVID-19:

“My number one priority continues to be protecting the health and well-being of the public, our legislative workforce, and my colleagues.

“I fully support the Governor’s actions in adopting California Public Health guidelines for mitigating against the spread of COVID-19, and my colleagues and I urge all Californians to follow those suggestions.

“This is not business as usual – we are actively examining ways to do the People’s business within these unprecedented and evolving parameters, and are working in collaboration with the Governor and Assembly to determine how to best help our public and private sector workforce. We are committed to maintaining a calm, science-based approach to solutions that will safeguard all Californians, and protect the integrity of businesses large and small, as well as working conditions for employees.”
