Senate Leader Atkins’ Statement on Passing of Firefighter Charles Morton

SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) issued the following statement regarding the death of native San Diegan Charles Morton, 39, a firefighter who died while battling the El Dorado Fire in the San Bernardino National Forest:

“San Diego, and the state, lost a true hero last week with the death of firefighter Charles Morton. Charles dedicated his life and his career to protecting our communities, from his start as a firefighter in the California Conservation Corps to his service as a squad boss with the Big Bear Interagency Hotshots. My sincere condolences go to his wife, daughter, and his entire family, as well as the firefighters with whom he served.”
