Senate Leader Atkins Announces Leadership, Committee Appointments

SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) announced the following leadership and committee appointments today. The committee appointments are effective Monday, February 15, 2021.

 

Senate Democratic Caucus Leadership Team

Senator Robert M. Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys), Majority Leader

Senator Mike McGuire (D-Healdsburg), Assistant Majority Leader

Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino), Caucus Chair 

Senator Lena A. Gonzalez (D-Long Beach), Majority Whip

Senator Maria Elena Durazo (D-Los Angeles), Assistant Majority Whip

Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park), Assistant Majority Whip

Senator Scott D. Wiener (D-San Francisco), Assistant Majority Whip

 

Standing Committees
Budget and Fiscal Review

  • Appoint Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) to replace Senator Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita).

Business, Professions and Economic Development

  • Appoint Senator Brian W. Jones (R-Santee) to replace Senator Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita). 

Education

  • Appoint Senator Brian Dahle (R-Bieber) to replace Senator Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita). 
  • Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh (R-Yucaipa) will serve as Vice-Chair of the committee. 

Governmental Organization

  • Appoint Senator Melissa Melendez (R-Lake Elsinore), which increases the size of the committee to 15.   
  • Senator Jim Nielsen (R-Tehama) will serve as Vice-Chair of the committee.

Natural Resources and Water

  • Appoint Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) to replace Andreas Borgeas (R-Fresno).

Rules

  • Appoint Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) to replace Senator Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita). 
  • Senator Patricia C. Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) will serve as Vice Chair of the committee. 

 

Subcommittees

Budget Subcommitee #5 on Corrections, Public Safety, Judiciary, Labor and Transportation

  • Appoint Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) to replace Senator Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita).
