Senate Leader Atkins on American Rescue Plan: California’s Fair Share Will Mean Additional Help for Struggling Families, Communities

March 11, 2021

SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) issued the following statement regarding President Biden’s signing of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan:

“Despite the more than $16 billion in investments our state has made this year in evictions relief, help for working Californians, aid for small businesses, and funding for schools, the need is still much greater than the resources we have. California has been a ‘donor state’ for decades, paying more to the federal government than we receive in federal services and investments. We’re fortunate that our budget is healthy and balanced, but it’s because we prioritized responsible fiscal planning. Our fair share of federal relief will mean help for people who are struggling, for our communities, and for our most vulnerable families.”
