Senate Leader Atkins Issues Statement on Appointment of Rob Bonta as California Attorney General

SACRAMENTO – Senate Leader Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) released the following statement on the appointment by Governor Gavin Newsom of Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D-Oakland) to serve as California’s next Attorney General:


“Assemblymember Bonta’s commitment to justice and equity was apparent to me as Speaker of the Assembly when I appointed him to chair the Select Committee on the Status of Boys and Men of Color. This was a carefully considered appointment by the Governor, and I am looking forward to the confirmation process where Senators will hear more about the plans our colleague has to make our system of justice work for everybody.”




Toni G. Atkins is President pro Tempore of the California Senate. Having previously served as Speaker of the California Assembly, she began her tenure in the Senate in 2016.
