Senate Rules Committee Approves Governor’s Appointment of Fern M. Steiner to California Water Commission

SACRAMENTO – The Senate Rules Committee, chaired by Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), approved the Governor’s appointment of Fern M. Steiner to the California Water Commission during its hearing today.

“Fern M. Steiner is a nationally recognized attorney with an impressive track record of successfully resolving complicated issues and negotiating major agreements in the public and private sectors,” said Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins. “As we face another year of drought and the growing impacts of climate change on our water supply, having experienced problem solvers like Fern on the California Water Commission is more important than ever.”

Fern M. Steiner is an attorney with over 40 years of experience in labor and employment law. Steiner has been an Attorney at Smith Steiner Vanderpool since 1987 and a Shareholder there since 1993. Steiner is a member of the San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors and a trustee for San Diego Youth Services. She earned a Juris Doctor degree from John Marshall Law School. This position will next move to the Senate floor for confirmation. The compensation is $100 per diem.
