SACRAMENTO – The Senate Rules Committee, chaired by Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), appointed Miguel Garcia to the Board of State and Community Corrections to fill the Board’s position for an individual with expertise in the juvenile justice system.

“Miguel Garcia is a passionate and effective advocate for anti-recidivism efforts in California, a tenet that is at the core of the Board of State and Community Corrections’ mission,” Pro Tem Atkins said. “Miguel deeply understands the real-life impacts of the Board’s policies on youth; his personal experiences in the juvenile justice system – and his work that has followed – yield a perspective that makes him an ideal addition to the Board.”

Miguel Garcia is an Advocacy Coordinator with the Anti-Recidivism Coalition. He currently serves as a Governor’s appointee on the California State Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, an advisory body to the Board of State and Community Corrections. He also serves as an appointee on the Riverside County Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council Subcommittee, and was selected by the Judicial Council to serve on the Secure Youth Treatment Facility Classification Matrix Working Group.

Miguel Garcia lives in Fresno and the term is three years. Compensation is actual and necessary traveling expenses.
