Community Recognition

Senator Dr. Akilah Weber Pierson will highlight the beauty and diversity of the 39th Senate District by providing
the opportunity for constituents to submit nominations for honorees in wide range of categories.
Constituents may submit one small business and/or one community leader for each category. The
community leader must reside in the 39th SD and the small business must be located in the 39th SD. An
event culminating all of the honorees will take place in December 2025.

Black History Month: Unsung Hero


 

An Unsung Hero is defined as a person who makes a substantive yet unrecognized contribution — a person whose bravery is unknown or unacknowledged. The California Legislative Black Caucus established the Black History Month Unsung Hero Award to recognize individuals who have contributed selflessly to their respective districts. 

Black History Month: Black Business


 

In honor of Black History Month, the California Legislative Black Caucus partners with the California Black Chamber of Commerce for the annual Black Business Brunch. This event will celebrate black-owned businesses and allies that make a direct positive impact on communities of color.
