Community Recognition

Senator Dr. Akilah Weber Pierson will highlight the beauty and diversity of the 39th Senate District by providing the opportunity for constituents to submit nominations for honorees in a wide range of categories. Please check the menu below for information each month’s theme and the nomination guidelines. All honorees must live in the 39th Senate District or operate a business in the 39th Senate District. An event culminating with all of the honorees will take place in December 2025.

Black History Month: Unsung Hero


An Unsung Hero is defined as a person who makes a substantive yet unrecognized contribution — a person whose bravery is unknown or unacknowledged. The California Legislative Black Caucus established the Black History Month Unsung Hero Award to recognize individuals who have contributed selflessly to their respective districts.

Black History Month: Black Business


 

In honor of Black History Month, the California Legislative Black Caucus partners with the California Black Chamber of Commerce for the annual Black Business Brunch. This event will celebrate black-owned businesses and allies that make a direct positive impact on communities of color.

Women's History Month: Woman of the Year


A woman who has demonstrated an exemplary role in California's innovation and progress.

Woman of Distinction: Arts


Women involved in the field of arts as artists, performing artists, visual artists, and design artists. This area also includes women in management/administration levels who work with galleries, museums, cultural programs, journalism, etc.

Woman of Distinction: Education


Women involved in developing and /or implementing educational programs at any level.

Woman of Distinction: Health Sciences


Women dedicated to the enhancement of human health. Health sciences encompass disease prevention, health education/promotion and the provision of health care. Women who are first responders are also eligible for nomination in this category.

Woman of Distinction: Small Business


 

Women who own a small business located in the 39th Senate District.

Senior of the Year


This award honors an outstanding senior who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment to community service and public welfare. For the purposes of our recognition, nominees must reside in the 39th Senate District and be at least 60 years old.

Nonprofit of the Year


Each year, CalNonprofits hosts a luncheon event in Sacramento for State Legislators to honor a nonprofit of the year from their districts. Please nominate a deserving nonprofit that has a positive impact on the community and is located in the 39th Senate District.

Small Business Recognition


 

Each month, Senator Weber and team would like to recognize a small business in our district. Please submit your suggestions on the following form to help us identify small businesses located in the 39th Senate District.
