Senate Leader Atkins Announces Appointments

SACRAMENTO – California Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins (D-San Diego), Chair of the Senate Rules Committee, has announced the following Rules Committee Appointments:

Maria Senour, Ph.D., of San Diego, has been appointed to the California Library Services Board. Dr. Senour is retired and Professor Emeritus of San Diego State University. She has served as a member of the San Diego Community College District Board of Trustees since 1990, and the Community Review Board on Police Practices. Dr. Senour received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Marygrove College, a Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of Toledo and a Ph.D. from Wayne State University. Compensation shall be actual and necessary expenses while on official business.

The Library Services Board determines policy for and authorizes allocation of funds from programs of the California Library Services Act. 

Nicole Capretz, J.D., of San Diego, has been appointed to the Strategic Growth Council, effective August 22, 2018. Ms. Capretz is an attorney and Executive Director of Climate Action Campaign. She is a board member of Trees 100 and Mid-City Community Advocacy Network, and is a member of the Sierra Club. Ms. Capretz received a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Society from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Master of Arts in Environmental Law and a Juris Doctorate from Vermont Law School. Compensation shall be actual and necessary expenses while on official business.

The Strategic Growth Council was created to take action with regard to coordinating programs of member state agencies to improve air and water quality, improve natural resource protection, increase the availability of affordable housing, improve transportation, meet the goals of the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, encourage sustainable land use planning, and revitalize urban and community centers in a sustainable manner.
