STATEMENT - Senate Leader Atkins Issues Statement on Governor Gavin Newsom’s Inauguration
SACRAMENTO – California Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) issued the following statement congratulating California’s 40th Governor, Gavin Newsom:
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our new Governor – Gavin Newsom. We have a lot of work to do, and his partnership will be critical as we tackle some of California’s seemingly intractable problems.
“His speech inspired and moved me. As Californians, we are united in our support of each other – from those who lost their homes and lives in the wildfires suffered last year to the migrants seeking refuge in California as they attempt to escape the violence of their home countries.
“Governor Newsom is true to his word to bring big and bold ideas to the table, including an issue near and dear to my own heart – affordable housing and the fight against homelessness. A Marshall Plan is exactly what is needed going forward.
“The California Senate stands ready to work hand-in-hand with the 40th Governor of the great state of California.”
