Joint Statement from Senate and Assembly Leaders: Legislative Leaders Set Tentative Calendar for Remainder of Legislative Session

May 6, 2020

SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) announced today a revised calendar for the remainder of the 2020 Legislative session. Adjustments were needed as lawmakers return to the Capitol and continue tackling the state’s continued response to the COVID-19 crisis.

The Assembly resumed session on May 4, 2020 and the Senate plans to resume on May 11, 2020, but the calendar will sync once again beginning on July 13, 2020. Policy committees in both houses are scheduled to hold hearings over the next few months, and work also will be underway on the revised state budget.

“This is a unique situation, but not unprecedented,” the leaders said in a joint statement. “We have had to make adjustments to the Legislative calendar before, and doing so now will allow both the Assembly and Senate to do our best work in ways that best suit the needs of our individual houses and offices.”

Calendars will be available on the Senate and Assembly websites shortly.
