Dayna Bochco and Katie Rice Reappointed to California Coastal Commission, Nick Macchione Appointed to California Tax Credit Allocation Committee

SACRAMENTO – Today, the Senate Rules Committee, chaired by Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), reappointed Dayna Bochco and Marin County Supervisor Catherine (Katie) Rice to the California Coastal Commission. The Rules Committee also appointed Nick Macchione to the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, filling the Senate’s position for a county representative.

“Dayna Bochco and Supervisor Katie Rice have both served on the California Coastal Commission with honor and distinction,” Pro Tem Atkins said. “Their expertise and passion will continue to enhance the California Coastal Commission’s ongoing efforts to protect and improve our coastal communities and our ocean for future generations.”

Dayna Bochco is retired, an attorney and the past president of Steven Bochco Productions. She is a member of Heal the Bay, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the California State Bar Association, and the Hollywood Radio and Television Society. Ms. Bochco has served as a Senate Rules Committee appointee on the Coastal Commission since May 2011.

Dayna Bochco lives in Los Angeles and the term is 4 years. Compensation is $100 per diem, $12.50 per hour of preparation for each meeting not to exceed 8 hours per meeting, and reimbursement for actual and necessary expenses.

Supervisor Katie Rice has served on the Marin County Board of Supervisors since 2011. As a county supervisor, she also serves on the boards of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Marin County Open Space District, and Marin County Housing Authority. Supervisor Rice is a proud graduate of the 31st class of the Marin Environmental Forum, a renowned environmental leadership training program. Prior to being elected to public office, she served as a District Aide to the Marin County Board of Supervisors and as a freelance journalist.

Supervisor Katie Rice lives in San Anselmo and the term is 4 years. Compensation is $100 per diem, $12.50 per hour of preparation for each meeting not to exceed 8 hours per meeting, and reimbursement for actual and necessary expenses.

The Rules Committee also appointed Nick Macchione to the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, which administers the federal and state Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Programs. Both programs were created to promote private investment in affordable rental housing for low-income Californians.

“Nick Macchione is a highly experienced director of one of the state’s largest county health and human service agencies,” Pro Tem Atkins said. “Overseeing an annual budget of more than $1.4 billion and 5,000 employees, Mr. Macchione has proven himself to be a skilled executive and leader. I have no doubts that he will serve admirably on the Tax Credit Allocation Committee.”

Nick Macchione is the Director and Deputy Chief Administration Officer of the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency. He is currently the Chair of the Medicaid and Indigent Care Subcommittee of the Health Steering Committee for the National Association of Counties (NACO), and Vice Chair of NACO’s Healthy Counties Advisory Board. Mr. Macchione also serves as Co-Chair of the San Diego Substance Abuse and Overdose Prevention Task Force, and serves on the boards of the First Five Commission for San Diego County, American Public Human Services Association, and Public Health Institute. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, having completed a three-year term as an elected Regent for San Diego and Imperial Counties (2005-08).  He is a Public Health Leadership Scholar with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and a Creating Healthier Communities Fellow with the American Hospital Association's Health Forum.

Nick Macchione lives in San Diego and this is a pleasure appointment. Compensation is reimbursement for actual and necessary expenses.
