‘You are what you drink’: California bill looks to flag sugary drinks on chain menus
State Senator Dr. Akilah Weber Pierson says Senate Bill 869 is meant to raise awareness of just how much sugar can be found in beverages, which can sometimes exceed the recommended allowance by over triple.
“Many people just simply don’t know how much sugar is in what they’re drinking,” she said.
Increased sugar has been linked to obesity, diabetes and heart disease. The proposal is backed by the American Heart Association.
