Senate Leader Atkins Applauds Signing of Child Care Budget Bill

July 23, 2021

SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) today issued a statement regarding the signing of AB/SB 131, the child development programs budget bill:

“I moved to California because my sister needed help caring for her baby. So it’s great all these years later to be part of California’s historic investment in the quality, professional child care that so many families rely on in order to work. The bill signed by Governor Newsom today includes critical rate reform to help stabilize the system and will add 200,000 new child care slots. I want to thank my colleagues in the California Legislative Women’s Caucus, including Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee Chair Nancy Skinner, Senator Connie Leyva, and Senator Monique Limón, for their leadership on this issue, and acknowledge the tireless advocacy of Child Care Providers United and its members, who helped get us to this important milestone.”
