Smaller in scale than the fair and limited in attendance, HOME*GROWN*FUN will offer a taste of your fair favorites–including shopping, food concessionaires, a Ferris wheel and carousel, agricultural-themed exhibits, demonstrations, contests and “edu-tainment” designed to educate and delight families looking to get outside for some real-life, in-person and down-home fun.

This year's Fair runs from June 11 through July 4. Get your tickets, starting on May 1.

Since 2000, the San Diego Asian Film Festival has been one of the premier platforms for Asian American cinema and has grown into the largest showcase of Asian and Pacific Islander cinema in the western United States. The festival is borne out of the love for independent film and the desire to showcase the diverse Pan Asian experience through film and other arts. Submissions are being accepted now for the 2021 San Diego Asian Film Festival. Regular deadline is April 26. Late deadline is June 4. Details here.

Covered California is rolling out a NEW special-enrollment period to help more Californians get covered at a lower cost starting as early as May 1. The enrollment period will stay open through the end of 2021. You don’t need to have a qualifying life event – the enrollment requirements are similar to those for open enrollment. An estimated 1.2 million Californians without insurance will be eligible to sign up for coverage and nearly half a million who currently buy insurance directly through a health insurance company will qualify for new financial savings if they enroll in a new plan through Covered California.

Enrollment is open through the end of 2021.

Documentaries, shorts, narratives, and family-friendly films are presented, highlighting stories of heroism, resilience, and honor. The festival includes the Local Film Showcase, which features San Diego’s filmmakers, events, people, or places

San Diego Theatre Month (formerly Theatre Week) is an exciting program of the San Diego Performing Arts League (SDPAL). The mission of San Diego Theatre Month is to highlight the variety and enhance the awareness of San Diego's diverse performing arts community. 

Participating performing arts groups will be offering a variety of special promotions during the month of May 2021. Tickets will be offered at $15, $30 and $45 levels.

The Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast is designed to bring together more than 1,000 diverse San Diegans – business, labor, electeds, all communities, all ages, all San Diegans who support equality and justice – to celebrate the memory of influential civil rights activist and elected official, Harvey Milk. The San Diego LGBT Community Center will host its annual Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast in 2021 as a free virtual celebration at noon.

The Ocean Visions 2021 Summit May 18-21, 2021 “Towards a Global Ecosystem for Ocean Solutions” will bring together a multi-sector community of researchers, innovators, decision-makers, funders, and more to develop roadmaps for solving great ocean challenges including ocean-based solutions to climate, equitable coastal solutions strategies for resilience and adaptation, marine circular economies, ocean & human health, and how to transform research from academia into sustainable businesses. 

The Summit is held virtually on the campus of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, USA, on May 18-21, 2021. The summit is linked and co-organized with satellite virtual campuses in Hobart, Australia, Cape Town, South Africa, Mindelo, Cabo Verde, and Kiel, Germany.
