SACRAMENTO – In the Capitol today, Senate Leader Toni Atkins recognized San Diego-based ElderHelp as Nonprofit of the Year in the 39th District.

ElderHelp provides personalized services and information that help seniors remain independent and live with dignity in their own homes.

“I am pleased to honor ElderHelp as Nonprofit of the Year in my district,” said Atkins. “As our population ages, we need people and organizations to assist our seniors with dedication and compassion. ElderHelp’s team sets the perfect example, and I am grateful to them for their service to San Diego.”

Led by CEO and Executive Director Deb Martin, ElderHelp provides services like care management and coordination, housing assistance such as roommate matching and affordable-housing navigation, transportation to medical and non-medical appointments, caregiver support and daily check-in calls.

“We are humbled and honored to receive this prestigious award from Senator Atkins,” said Martin. “Her staunch support and sincere compassion for the senior community inspires our work and drives our mission of helping seniors age with dignity in their homes and remain active in their communities. We’re grateful for her vision and continued commitment to working together to improve the lives of San Diego seniors and their families.”

ElderHelp served more than 7,000 seniors in the most recent fiscal year and enrolled 123 volunteers, a 21-percent increase over the previous year. Those volunteers logged more than 11,000 hours helping clients. And, 60 percent of new program participants were placed in affordable housing.
