Senator Atkins Announces Committee Changes

SACRAMENTO – California Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) today announced the following changes to Senate standing committees. Designated committee chairs and membership will be formally adopted by the Senate Rules Committee when it convenes later today - June 14, 2018.

  • Senator Ben Allen (D-Santa Monica) is appointed to the Committee on Business, Professions and Economic Development as a member.
  • Senator Jim Beall (D-San Jose) is appointed to the Committee on Health as a member.
  • Senator Robert M. Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys) is appointed to the Committee on Insurance as a member.
  • Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) is appointed as Chair of the Committee on Veterans Affairs.

The changes are to fill the vacancy necessitated by the recall of Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton).

In addition:

  • Senator Scott D. Wiener (D-San Francisco) is appointed to the Committee on Governmental Organization as a member to fill the current vacancy.
  • Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) replaces Ed Hernandez (D-West Covina) as Chair of the Committee on Legislative Ethics.

Except for the changes described above, committee membership remains the same.
