Kate Kendell Appointed to the Covered California Governing Board

SACRAMENTO – Today, the Senate Rules Committee, chaired by Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), appointed Kate Kendell to the Covered California Governing Board.

“The guiding mission of Covered California is to provide healthcare coverage to all Californians, especially individuals who wouldn’t otherwise have access to it,” Pro Tem Atkins said. “Through her work at the California Endowment, Kate Kendell has successfully advocated making healthcare accessible to underserved individuals and communities across the state. Her strong leadership and professional expertise will be a welcome addition to the Covered California Governing Board.”

Ms. Kendell is Chief of Staff at The California Endowment, a statewide foundation focused on expanding access to affordable, quality health care for underserved communities. Prior to this, she was the Interim Chief Legal Officer for the Southern Poverty Law Center, and served for 22 years as the Executive Director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights.  She was on the Board of Directors for The California Endowment from 2011-2020, and previously served on the boards of the Center for the Study of Social Policy, and Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom.

Kate Kendell lives in San Francisco and she will be filling the remainder of a four-year term ending January 1, 2024..Members may receive a per diem and reimbursement for travel and other necessary expenses.
