Debra Maxie Reappointed to the California Student Aid Commission

SACRAMENTO – The Senate Rules Committee, chaired by Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), reappointed Debra Maxie to the California Student Aid Commission on Wednesday, August 10.

“Debra Maxie has decades of real world experience teaching in classrooms and counseling youth,” Pro Tem Atkins said. “Her keen understanding of the needs of California’s students has made her a critical voice on the Commission.”

Debra Maxie is a retired educator, she was a teacher and counselor in San Diego City schools for 38 years. Ms. Maxie is a member of the Association of African American Educators, National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa Incorporated and Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated. She is currently the Secretary of the California Student Aid Commission, where she has served as a Senate Rules Committee appointee since 2019. Previously, Ms. Maxie served as a Speaker appointee to the commission from 2015-2019.

Debra Maxie lives in San Diego and the term is 4 years. Members may receive $100 per meeting and reimbursement for necessary travel expenses.
