Aidan Lin Appointed to the California Youth Empowerment Commission

SACRAMENTO – Today, the Senate Rules Committee, chaired by Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), appointed Aidan Lin to the California Youth Empowerment Commission.

“The California Youth Empowerment Commission is an exciting new opportunity to improve communication and meaningful collaboration between California’s youth and the state Legislature, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Governor,” Pro Tem Atkins said. “Still in college himself, Aidan Lin is active in his community and an established advocate for students, especially LGBTQ and students of color. Aidan’s experiences in youth leadership and passion for civic engagement will no doubt be essential to the Commission during its formative years.”

Aidan Lin is an undergraduate at the University of California San Diego and the Executive Director of Our Time to Act United. Lin also serves as a campus-wide Senator for the Associated Students of UC San Diego. Previously, he served as the Associate Vice President of Local Affairs for the Associated Students of UC San Diego. He is a member of the University City Planning Group Community Plan Update Subcommittee, and VOICE Grant Awardee of the UC Center for Free Speech & Civic Engagement, and serves as Executive Advisor at Notelove, a nonprofit that gives free music lessons to youth in California, Massachusetts, and Texas. Lin is a former member of the Warren College Provost’s Student Advisory Council at UC San Diego.

Aidan Lin lives in San Diego and the term is for two years. Compensation is $100 per diem and reimbursement for travel expenses.
